Sales you just have to love

Making a big bet on the future of the nuclear power industry, the Toshiba Corporation said today that it had agreed to buy Westinghouse Electric, a builder of nuclear power plants, from British Nuclear Fuels P.L.C. for $5.4 billion.

The purchase price is about three times higher than analysts estimated Westinghouse would fetch in July, thanks to stiff competition for the unit. Toshiba outbid global giants like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and General Electric to win Westinghouse.
