that history of religion in america....

My friend Roof had fun the other day giggling at me, as I mentioned something, and she asked,
What was that about the cult of personality again?
since the core concept was about how denominationalism in america was about the 'force of personality of the preacher' winning the day, rather than the mere merits of their argument....

It will be interesting to see where that can go from here.... since what we have also been watching has been the problem of 'all of those other religions' that have cropped up in america, from Maoism through Post-Modernism, that it would probably be well worth working out whether or not the core problem had been the fiasco of the whole 'religioous' "anti-intellectualism" in them, or some other common ground that all of these various alternative manifestations of collective spirituality had that had not quite worked out well...

For those who have not yet read it, may I seriously recommend 'anti-intellectualism in american life' - and we shall go from there.... who knows, we may finally find a safe place where secularists will be able to take the pragmatism that has it's roots in the revivalist tendencies in america....

Why gosh, maybe some day we will find a safe way to be one amongst many nations in america, and not have to be the great nuclear warlord, whom, every 20 years or so, has to go remind the world that we have the most battle tested military force on the planet....
