The working definition of sheer freaking comedy is getting the word from the manager that the Director was concerned if the platform code was ready to work with the new mib, that I had not even taken a look at the email about, since, well, it's the usual whine that the MicroSmurfDomainThingie wants me to rotate my password in compliance with it, which means waking up a box that i use to boot into a microSmurfOs, so that I can have it tell me that my passwd needs to be changed....
so I did that. it was exciting. It was Impressive...
and there it was, this supposed new Mib, and I was supposedly getting a fresh peak at a new version of it, that would be some how differenent and new.... so i went at it.... and i got to the part in my process where I was about to save my generic template for the perl module to the name that I would save such things, and the FREAKING EVIL MAC OSX FILE SYSTEM WHINEY INTERFACE ASKED ANNOYYINGLY
Replace Originaland I went BLINK? as I did not know that I had an original of that name in the file system at that part in the process....
So Keeping with the Alice's Restaurant Theory of Software Development, I opened up the other file, and noted that it too referenced the new mib.... and I checked further, and lo, and behold, the Freaking Mib had been in the 'new release' for over a month now, even if folks had not worked through their parts of their issues, and we had already source code controlled our wrapper on it so that we can talk with the control layer on the remote host using the canonical SNMP calls - and that we have been waiting since the 15th of December for the actual hardware that would be controlled by this mib....
And so, here I sit, all alone, in the dark, unloved, and uncared for, because the code is working, and would be demonstrably proven to work as it is suppose to be if the FREAKING HARDWARE were working... but does anyone care how Isolated and Alone I am, sitting here in the dark, unloved and uncared for, with our platform code already installed ready to test this new card, if only it would give up the nasty habit of causing the actual box to start smoking, hanging around with loose women and drinking excessively....
Oh welll.... the tedium.... the tedium....
