McCain made the mobile Revolution Revolutionary!!!

Asked what work John McCain did as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee that helped him understand the financial markets, the candidate's top economic adviser wielded visual evidence: his BlackBerry.

"He did this," Douglas Holtz-Eakin told reporters this morning, holding up his BlackBerry. "Telecommunications of the United States is a premier innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you're looking at the miracle John McCain helped create and that's what he did."

Al Gore, call your office.

Would this be a bad time to talk about, how, the NeoCon echo chamber, and it's selective memory and utility?
If I told you after the Palin announcement that Republicans would attack Oprah, you'd have called me crazy. Oprah is beloved of the precise demographic Rs hope to win over by naming Palin. It would be suicide! Besides, what would be the grounds for the attack?

Then when I told you “because she is keeping her promise to keep politics off her show,” you would say I was doubly nuts. “Impossible! Everyone knows that when Oprah backed Obama she made it clear that she was not going to leverage her show for him. How on Earth are the Republicans going to turn that into an attack?”

Welcome to PalinPetition.com. You will find that after the initial blip on Sept. 5-6, it has slowly leaked into the mainstream media. I discovered it via the ever excellent Benton Foundation media headlines service, which linked to this trade press piece. I expect it will start to dominate the cable and broadcast news rounds via FOX and other conservative commentators soon. Timing will no doubt depend on focus group polling on whether Obama is gaining traction or if passion about Palin begins to wane. But from the current ferment in the vectors, I'm pegging it to be next week's distraction.

Defeatist DoomSayers Stabbing Troops In The Back!!!

Urgently trying to keep cash flowing amid a Wall Street meltdown, the Federal Reserve on Tuesday pumped $50 billion into the nation's financial system to help ease credit stresses.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's action comes in addition to its regular market operations to inject $20 billion into the system slated for the day.

So Why Is Carley A Red Communist Who Hates Freedom?

"I don't think Barack Obama could run a major corporation. I don't think Joe Biden could," she said. "But it is not the same as being the president or vice president of the United States. It is a fallacy to suggest that the country is like a company, so of course, to run a business, you have to have a lifetime of experience in business, but that's not what Sarah Palin, John McCain, Barack Obama or Joe Biden are doing."

Get Your Steam Punk Fiscal Policies ON!!!!

Yes Kids, that 19th Century Banking Gag Is here:
With the "financial storm of the century" hitting financial institutions, many Americans are worried about the safety of their bank deposits. While the FDIC insures individual accounts up to $100,000, the reaction to IndyMac's failure this summer -- lines outside retail branches -- shows Americans have limited faith in the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which guarantees individual accounts up to $100,000.
[ cf Top Economist: Americans Should Worry About Bank Deposits if Congress Doesn't Act ]
WOW....

We should now worry that the Evil Liberals and their wall street fellow travellors in the government have actually been able to underDeRgulate the FDIC, so that it too is another Tatters, Tatters....

Ah yes.... This boys and nonPersons is why you should have taken that tax rebate check and bought the Government of your choice...

Hum... Since BaBa O'Reilly was again whining that taxing the top 0.01 percent of americans, as is the Obama Plan, is Class Warfare... uh, doesn't that confirm that BaBa O'Reilly was engaged in class warfare when supporting those tax cuts???? And by his own standard, doesn't that make him a Communist destroying our white christian american with his class warfare rather than supporting our 'we are all one' model of americana???

Go Steam Punk Fiscal Policies - blow smoke, and wear goggles....

It's the Look, not the substance that matters.... Besides, we can all get a chance to ride on the road to where the imaginary bridge to nowhere would have been.... and we can do it looking really fashion cool.

Meanwhile on the Other Eastern Front....

More Gloriously Victorious News:
A controversial new US tactic to mount counter-terrorist operations inside Pakistan has met with fresh hostility, it emerged yesterday, as Pakistani tribesmen representing half a million people vowed to switch sides and join the Taliban if Washington does not stop cross-border attacks by its forces from Afghanistan.

Reacting to American missile attacks in north Waziristan last week, which followed an unprecedented cross-border ground assault earlier this month, tribal chiefs from the area called an emergency meeting on Saturday.

"If America doesn't stop attacks in tribal areas, we will prepare a lashkar [army] to attack US forces in Afghanistan," tribal chief Malik Nasrullah announced in Miran Shah, north Waziristan's largest city. "We will also seek support from the tribal elders in Afghanistan to fight jointly against America."

[ cf Pakistani tribal chiefs threaten to join Taliban ]
It would be useful of course to find out if this Waziristan is in fact the Jilted Suitor for Merrill Lynch, or are they a diaffected faction that had been bidding on AIG.

But clearly they are not being positive about the Great And Glorious, Clearly Victorious Mission Accomplished dance that is accuring all over wall street as All America Cheers on the War-President's Stunning Military Upset of the Unbeleivers and Heathenist Apostate Spawns of the Rich White Elitist Obamanite who are clearly against the sort of Aggressive And Abusive Regulatory oversight that has made Wall Street the NEW Eastern Front.

Hopefully where ever this Pakistan place is, they will get on the band wagon and embrace the new Alaska Economic Miracle that has been sweeping the world!!!

Why Is Sarah Of The Lipstick soft on Sexual Predators of Children?

So Sarah Palin's latest explanation for why she fired Walt Monegan is that he had gone over her head in seeking federal money for an initiative to combat sexual assault crimes, before she had approved the program.

But it now appears that the program in question is one that most elected officials would be wary of admitting they hadn't strongly backed. According to Peggy Brown, who heads the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Monegan wanted to use the federal money to hire retired troopers and law enforcement officials, and assign them to investigate the most egregious cases of sexual assault -- including those against children.

In other words, if Palin's new story is true, she fired Monegan for being too aggressive in going after child molesters.

Well, there you have it, more Glorious Victorious Mission Accomplished Dancing on the eastern front about how Wall Street Elitist Bankers are all ganging up on Poor Sarah because she is just a regular old home grown girl who understands that sometimes folks just have to engage in a little old fashion biblical child molesting as is clearly layed out in the Bible as a way to stop Gay HomoZeXuals from abusively over regulating the market place...

Or maybe we should wait for the next round of this new version of "Northern Exposure On The Eastern Front: The Lipstick Edition!"

Should YouTube censor political analysis of radical rightwing organizations?

Really Simple Question. ( cf YouTube censors viral video documentary on Palin's churches ) makes one wonder which position fact checking might take on these types of issues about what is, and what is not, in the public issue.

Should we allow OtherBelievers to have a say in the true faith? ( cf Sarah Palin's Demon Haunted Churches - The Complete Edition ) or should the public discourse on religion and it's relationship to the state be limited only to the correct types of true believers?

What if america were engaged in a low intensity warfare scenario? You know, as outlined in say FM 3-24. Should americans be allowed to be involved? would it be their duty to be involved?

Or should they just politely sit around and wait for the evil liberal media to notice the topic under discussion, and the persons engaged in the narratives and discourses???

Happy Nationalization Day To You, Happy Nationalization Day to You...

Well glorious Leader has Provided Greatness of Gloriousness:
The Federal Reserve plans to offer an $85 billion bridge loan to the American International Group in return for control of the ailing insurance giant, people briefed on the matter said Tuesday night.

In an intense discussion at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Tuesday afternoon, the Fed and a group of executives from JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and other firms agreed that a banking syndicate to provide the $75 billion in emergency financing could not be arranged by Tuesday night.

If the Fed intervenes, it would be an eleventh-hour bailout of A.I.G., whose debt downgrades by major credit ratings agencies could have sparked a debilitating need for additional capital.

Concerns about A.I.G.’s health have gripped the financial markets, as many investors feared the insurance giant would follow Lehman Brothers into bankruptcy. An A.I.G. collapse could be an even bigger systemic threat to major financial firms than Lehman’s downfall, because of the company’s dominant position in insuring mortgage-linked securities...

What? New Banking Regulations to replace the misplaced ones???

WOW:
Without Glass-Steagall repeal, Bank of America wouldn't be able to buy Merrill Lynch, the only bit of arguably positive news to come out of this crazy weekend. And more generally, it is looking like investment banks that don't have big consumer banking franchises aren't up to the challenge of surviving modern-day financial crises. Of the five big independent investment banks that existed six months ago, only two survive.

Now it is true is that we failed to replace the archaic Glass-Steagall rules with a sensible, modernized regulatory structure. But don't worry, we'll be getting to that soon enough!

[ cf Toward Universal Banking ]
What????

Banking Regulation???? It is a good idea???

And as one of the commentors noted:
This reminds me of the biker who was run over by an ambulance.
Wasn't he so lucky to have one standing bye!
Ah yes...

Fortunately Merrill, along with Bear Sterns, and AIG, et al, are not victims of the Glass-Steagle Act's Brutalizing excess governmental over regulation. Now all we need is some sensible, modernized regulatory structure, like, oh, Uncle Eno's from Snow Crash, that will make it less likely that in the future the poor tax payers will have to bail out the big firms that would not even allow them through the front doors...

Oh no, I really agree... We want the right sort of sensible regulatory oversite. One that will not get dismissed as soon as there is time to make the next bigger can not fail banking combine...

Combines, now that is a word I have not seen much since Ken Kesey's One flew over the cuckoo's nest. It makes me feel safer knowing that we may be able to restore that word to the economic discourse, along with maybe Nurse Ratched???? As in, say,
Nurse Ratched, the new head of Recovery of broken combine assets, noted that we will just have to up the voltage on that sucker until he learns to become a team player.
Yeah... that's the new age new wave...

Clearly we evil republicans should learn, when being critical of the Religioously Free Marketerring, that amongst the stoopid things they have done is detach the banking process from the locality where folks can utilize their local knowledge to maximize local profits the old fashion way - rather than simply monetizing the financializables, into meaningless numbers that are merely numerical.

But of course that way means supporting Frank "why we fight" Capra and Brig. Gen. Jimmie Stewart in the war against the draft dodging moral reporbated dirty stinking hippies of Potterville, as a part of reminding america about it being a real live wonderful life, even with or without the product falling into the public domain where it could be turned into some holy icon about some day that, uh, would have been like Rush would have liked it to have been, if it were not that Rush Limbaugh and friends were rushing after the need to become Potter, and to push everyone else into Potterville....

Ah yes.... New banking regulations. Right up there with new regulations against various forms of Financial FRAUD, and the various forms of BANKING FRAUD, that would have been nice to prevent so that we would not need to be bailing out firms that are on the verge of bankruptcy... because, bottom of the 9th inning, 3-2 pitch, all they had was their financializables.... no friends, no good will, no faith.....

Why heck, we might even consider criminalizing crime while we are being optomistic about it...

That General Pinochete meets Milton Freedman on Privatizing Social Security....

Would this be a bad time to talk about the gang buster wonderland of the privatization of social security?
John McCain's contention is that Wall Street has, for years, been rotting in a toxic mixture of greed and overreach and corruption. Simultaneously, a 70-year-old regulatory structure has proven inadequate at checking the institution's excesses. This is, in other words, a crisis composed of trends, rather than a singular, unpredictable, catastrophe.

Three years ago, John McCain signed on to George W. Bush's efforts to privatize Social Security. He surveyed Wall Street and decided that it was a stable enough institution to entrust with the nation's pension funds. Three years ago. And this wasn't just an attempt to cozy up to Bush: McCain was arguing for privatization in 1999. So McCain's argument is that Wall Street is built atop an unstable regulatory foundation and is shot through with most of the seven deadly sins. That the situation has been allowed to fester so long is evidence that "people were asleep at the switch." Even so, McCain has consistently argued that much of Social Security should be turned over to... Wall Street. Either he wanted to tank the nation's pensions funds or he was one of the people asleep at the switch. But those are really the only two options here.

[ cf Yet Another Reason to Vote Against John McCain (emphasis added for the slow readers) ]
Or should we just whistle a ditty or two about how, well, democracy needs capitalism, but that capitalism does not need democracy.

Or should we just recommend that Pallin/McCain should PUT DOWN THE BONG DUDEZ!!! You are like Totally Baked!!!
