They Did What?
Oh My God!!! Talk About The Most BRUTAL of All Stab In The Back Plot By The Radical Left Wing Anti-Military, Anti-War, Anti-American Clique of Shrill Hysterical Angry Radical Extremists:

Wiccans who served in the U.S. military will be allowed to have their faith's pentacle emblem engraved on government-issued tombstones and memorials under a legal agreement announced today with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Roberta Stewart of Fernley, Nev., one of the plaintiffs, had sought a pentacle-inscribed memorial plaque from the VA for her husband, Nevada National Guard Sgt. Patrick D. Stewart, who was killed in action in 2005 when his helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.

"I have waited for this day for so long," Stewart said. "Today I have relief, comfort and happiness in knowing this a quest for religious freedom has prevailed."

[ cf Wiccans to add pentacle to veterans' tombstones ]

It's belief in salvation through the blood sacrifice of Jesus that strikes me as the most perverse and barbaric notion in today's religious world. It seems like child abuse to teach kids that Jesus died for them--adult Christians, like this blogger, seem warped by that nonsensical doctrine. Nature religion seems like a very healthy antidote to that sort of barbarity, and a star seems preferable to an emblem of Roman capital punishment.

"Gay HomoZeXual Pirate Canadianists"? Right. Get the straight jacket ready.

I am straight, married, and I'm on the far right politically.

I'm also Pagan. And a veteran of the USAF who was *over there* in the first Gulf War.

And because I am on the far right, I am a strong supporter of the United States Constitution. All of it. I don't pick and choose which parts of it I support.

Generally speaking, I think the Federal Governemnt needs to stay out of my private life, including my religious life. Which is one more reason I applaud the outcome of the settlement.

As for how we treat our veterans who have died in service to our country...if they want an engraving of a pile of dog shit on thier grave marker, I say we give it to them.

ok, so why am I an ass hole????

I too served... so we can take that part out of the matrix here...

I had the fun in Boot Camp that they did not have a specification for Anglo-Catholic, nor for Taoists, so I think I went with GI Protestant or 'episcopalean' - which is a polite way of saying "almost atheist" if you are aware of Hanoi Annie Coulter's take on the True Holy War...

As for Gender Preference and Tax Deduction status, gosh, not too sure those are things folks really want to be flaunting in Public, merely because our Society Mandates that one can have only ONE TAX DEDUCTION on the First Wife, and that because the Blue Belly Bayonet Wielding Bible Burners do not accept the Divine Will That only Bishops are limited to having but One Wire.

Things are like tough all over...

As for the constitution, do you really believe that piece of failed pre-911 Liberalism is still operable? And has not been turned into an unintelligible holy text beyond the reach of mere Mortal Man? Come On, don't you get it that the Whole World Changed on 09/11/2001 and now we have a War President, who may soon pick the new War Lord, to help protect us....

Don't you understand that you are either on the Side of The President, or you are in league with Satan...

Pish-posh.

We don't need no stinkin' constitution. The present "leader" of the far-right-neo-con-clown-car-crew told me so, in deeds, if not in words. That first, fourth, fifth, eight, tenth and fourteenth-amenedment P B.S. stuff is sooooo yesterday.

And, until 7-Nov-2008, admire the 25th, cuz it be goin' away soon...

> All of it.

And ** I ** say "too 18th century." These are modern times. Dangerous times. Security-minded times. Tolerating dissent leads to security violations, which we' MUST NOT allow. Far better to ensure security than liberty. Ask anyone. It's common knowledge. Everybody says so.

> Which is one more reason I applaud the outcome of the settlement.

And you're probably one of the They-Them-Those-types who advocate allowing SENATORS (for Bush's sake, SENATORS!) to take their "oath" of office on a Quaran!! What kinna oath is EVER specified on such a "book"?? Can you imagine? What would the FOUNDING FATHERS say! They're rolling in their graves, I tell you ROLLING IN THEIR GRAVES!

Verily.

Best not to risk that.

Or 9/11 might happen again.

> i was more then willing and still am

Q: And what DOES this country mean, that you would so sacrifice?

> i for one am a pagan

Q: In what sense of the word??

(from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pagan)

–noun

1. one of a people or community observing a polytheistic religion, as the ancient Romans and Greeks.

2. a person who is not a Christian, Jew, or Muslim.

3. an irreligious or hedonistic person.

–adjective

4. pertaining to the worship or worshipers of any religion that is neither Christian, Jewish, nor Muslim.

5. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of pagans.

6. irreligious or hedonistic.

> and had to endure the wich hunts that folks like you.

During the "Early Modern" period? During the Reformation? During the 18th century witch trials?

The years have been VERY kind to you.

> get away with in the arm forces

Q: What says the chain of command of such practices??

> i say shame on you and all those that belive like you.

Sorry that you feel that you must run under-cover, I can, though, understand the feeling. When I came back to the world the safest place for me was the Gay Community, they did the sheltie head tip about "covert operations" - but then decided that it was probably like "not being out" - and had rules about how one deals with folks in their Special Closet.

If you are a Pagan, be proud of your tradition - IF you can deal with it. I had hoped that noting that the Puzzle Palace is a five sided building, and hence one that is a Pentagon, with five angles, pentangle, would make it clear that I was aiming for a bit over the top here - since we are living in the absurdist age in which we have Mormon Chaplains in the Armed Forces Chaplaincy Corp, and at one time they and the Christian Scientists, were deemed dangerous cults.... We have the added Bonus Add that it is the USN who are issuing Immam's to the USMC - as is the normal arrangement for the USMC - and still americans are freaking out about "muslims"...

What will be really tragic in all of this is IF an actual investigation into the Pat Tillman case shows up that he was 'fragged' because he was not a Pious as those around him, and therefore not being the right type of state sponsored co-religionist, it was OK to frag him...

These are tough times all around for everyone.

And and speaking to Jesus being gay, you speak as tho "gay is bad".

I encourage you to meet me and mine in The Castro on Halloween (or on Pride Parade Day).

You'll see ZILLLIONS of gay deities in The Castro every Halloween. And Bi. And straight. Maybe a few trans-genedered, and surely quite a few flexibile, indeterminate and/or "other".

The question you wanna ask is whether a gay deity loves vets any less than straight deities love vets.

Fear and Ignorance
(Anonymous)
2007-04-26 07:41 pm UTC (link)
Fear and Ignorance run rampant, not only in your blog, but in your responses to comments on it.

Have you taken the time to KNOW what you are talking about before you CONDEM it? Most likely NOT! In MY experience this life time, I have found that MOST Pagans know more about the Bible and Chrisitanity than MOSR Christians do. ONE of the reasons that WE are NOT Christian. We look to learn about it in order to understand it, instead of taking it for granted, and JUST believing in it.

MOST Christians this days and age don’t even practice their religion, yet continue to call themselves Christians, because that is the Status Quo of what is acceptable in society or maybe just because their parents followed that religion even if they don’t REALLY follow it themselves. MOST Chrsitians don’t LIVE the teachings of Jesus or Chrsitianity and YET they say that THEY will go to heaven because they BELIEVE in Jesus Christ and all others will go to hell. It is MY personal belief that actions speak louder than words, and in the end, you MUST let your life, and how you lived it, speak for itself.

As for Wicca and the pagan religions being a false religion, our practices go back tens of thousands of years before the birth of Christ. Lets not also forget that the Jews and Romans called Christianity a false religion once upon a time… Persecuting Christians as the Chrsitians are persecuting Pagans now. Remember that two wrongs DON’T make a right.

I would like to point out that Satan or “the devil” is a Christian concept and that Satanists or “devil worshippers” are ALSO Christian. They BELIEVE in God and Jesus AND the devil and CHOOSE to worship the dark side of the Christian faith. But they ARE Christians if they believe in Christian concepts.

Pagans and Wiccans DO NOT belive in Satan or the concept of the devil, therefore we CAN’T worship what we don’t believe in. Some of us, although not all, DO however, believe in God and Jesus and those of us who don’t, believe in the teachings of Jesus, even if we do not believe that he WAS/IS God.

This idea that YOUR religion is the ONLY TRUE religion is arcaic and hypocritical at best. WE don’t believe, or act, in that manner. We believe that everyone has the ability to make a choice and the responsability of living with that choice. We belive that we should RESPECT other’s right to make their own choices. We respect your choice to be a Christian and practice your religion and ONLY ask for the same respect in return.

That said, the ONLY word I can find to describe your attitude and thoughts reflected in your blog and responses to comments is BIGOT! You claim to be a patriot, yet do not believe in upholding the Constitution? Freedoms of race, religion, sexual orientation, choice, etc. are ALL guaranteed to ALL AMERICANS in the Constitution of the United States as Inalienable Civil Rights. To say that YOUR way is the ONLY way is judgemental and pompous. Who do YOU think You are? GOD?

The ONLY victory won with this issues was for FREEDOM of RELIGION! Which in this country Freedom of Religion means ANY religion. We have the right to worship as we see fit JUST as you do, just as ANY religion does. If you don’t believe that, then I suggest you read the 1st Ammendment to the Constitution.

Goddess Bless!

Thanks so much!

Except for Snowcalla, not one thing's been said worth saying on point. (ref: "As for how we treat our veterans")

"Wiccans -- they don't get no respect, no respect at all" (Dangerfield, R., Paraphrased)

"Atheists -- they don't get no respect, no respect at all" (ibid)

"Fundies -- they don't get no respect, no respect at all" (ibid)

The bid-nez on the brutial symbols of christianity vs the harmonious symbols of wicca bears discussion, outside a forum of ridiculing the rediculous.

Likewise, the tenor of tolerance espoused by Ms. Fisher strongly resonates with a long-held view that "freedom is for the thought we despise" (Justice Oliver Wendall HOlmes, Jr). Tolerance of that variety is just simply rePUGnant to those in The Bay Area where the They-Them-Those types are often seen "arm in arm" or (HORRORS!) BOY-HAND-IN-BOY-HAND!!! (eeek!! Evil! Evil! Evil!
